What Are ficlets?

A ficlet is a short story that enables you to collaborate with the world.

Once you’ve written and shared your ficlet, any other user can pick up the narrative thread by adding a prequel or sequel. In this manner, you may know where the story begins, but you’ll never guess where (or even if!) it ends.

Does The Expanded Universe Cost Money?

Nope, it is completely free to join The Expanded Universe community.

That said, it does cost to run this service, so clicking on links is appreciated.

How Do I Get a The Expanded Universe Account?

Go to the Expanded Universe site, and click on the “Login” link at the top of the scren.

How Do I Find a Story?

Use the fic link at the top of the screen to browse recently added ficlets. Once there, you can navigate via paging controls or use the search textbox. Alternatively, you can click the “Tags” link at the top of the page to open a page which allows you to browse stories by Tag.

How Do I Write a New Story?

The standard way to write a new story would be to go to your User Dashboard and click the New Fic link. The second way is to choose the Write New Sequel or Write New Prequel links on the story page.

Formatting is created by utilizing Markdown.

Markdown? What's that?

Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML).

What this means, is that it allows you to easily create formatted text. The markup that users here will use the most are the BOLD and ITALICS markup. This markups are:

  • **Text To Be Bolded**
  • *Text To Be Italicized*
  • ***Text To Be Bolded & Italicized***

More information can be bound at the Markdown website.

Where Can I Report a Bug?

The Expanded Universe uses Uservoice for reports of bugs, as well as feature enhancement requests. Bugs & Features are voted on, so that I will know which ones are most important to the users, and I'll work on those first.
